Last week I made a post about describing what I have learned from my interview research. Today I will create a general interview question list using what I've learned. The list will be divided up into three main sets: Mauricio's, Baga's, and general questions. Dividing it in this way will ensure I gather two varied perspectives. I want to offer each interviewee an opportunity to provide a unique response. This way I will ensure the interviews aren't bland. The last thing I want is for both interviewees to regurgitate the same responses. I also want to ensure the questions are open-ended and complex. I don't want simple yes or no responses, this wouldn't work well as a voice over something I plan on implementing within my documentary. Many of the questions in my last documentary went to waste as my interviewee answered simply yes or no.
The questions for Baga will primarily focus on why he decided to open a Martial arts academy. For Mauricio the questions will focus on him as a competitor. The general questions will discuss each induvial Jiu Jitsu journey to black belt, what they have gained from Jiu Jitsu, and their thoughts on discipline. I feel a good way to focus on discipline is to dedicate a section of the documentary to it. I could create an animation of the definition to transition the discussion to the topic. I also think its best if it's at the end of the documentary. This way it will be the last impression on the viewer. Since its an excerpt, it would technically be the middle to end section if it was full length.
General Mauricio Baga
These questions encompass the general topics I want to discuss. In the future I might make some changes. Something I noticed is that I use a lot of vocabulary specific to Jiu Jitsu. Because of this I believe it will be a nice addition to include on screen definitions. Maybe in the corner of the screen when a term is mentioned. I think this will be a very nice and important addition!
