Finalizing Concept- People & Places

Last week was a crazy week at my school. There were two lockdowns in the span of three days. Then on Friday, it was UF decisions AKA senior skip day. And there was no school on Monday. Because of how crazy last week was, I never got to sit down with my teacher and review the concept for my documentary series. Today I want to finalize the idea and determine a name, places, people, and an overall goal.

Since training at a martial arts gym, I have had access to some amazing athletes specializing in various martial arts. The documentary episode Im producing will focus on Jiu-Jitsu. My American Top Team facility (ATT Weston) is run by a multiple-degree blackbelt that goes by Baga. One of his lifelong students, Mauricio Gomez, recently became a black belt a couple years ago and is ranked top 10 in the world.

I believe Baga and Mauricio would be the perfect interviewees. Marital art is a key component of their life. They have dedicated so much time and energy to reaching the place they are at. I also think it will be interesting to discuss their relationship. In addition, since Baga owns the academy it would be interesting to discuss why he would take the business risk just to teach other Jiu Jitsu.

One thing that I will do not enjoy about my documentary was where it was shot. The whole documentary was shot in one area, the gym. For this documentary, I definitely want to have two locations. Despite this, I don't want to create any inconvenience for my interviewees. They're both very busy people. I think the martial arts gym is a perfect place to shoot. As I don't want all my shots to be just there, I think utilizing the parking lot would be perfect. At the end of the parking lot, there is just Everglades. I think I could get some really nice shots of the interviewees running/working out at sunset with the Everglades background. Normally I would have to worry about car sounds, but the back of the parking lot is pretty dead year-round.

The next step is to ask both of my coaches and see if their willing to participate in the documentary. After that, I will have to find a suitable timeline to interview both.
