Today was a long day

Little more research:

I began my editing this morning and it was going really smooth. I found my workflow was really fast in After Effects, finding myself moving quickly with editing. I decided to begin looking into the critical reflection portion of this project. I believe this portion of the project will be way more difficult to edit. I know that sounds weird but I had already planned how I would edit the opening.

Planning the critical reflection isn't something I did like the opening. Well, I couldn't plan it even if I wanted to since the production process had to play out for me to reflect. While recording, I made sure to also capture behind the scenes of the production. The setting was really challenging to work in. It was uncomfortable and some shots required difficult setups. There were also many unexpected challenges like with the equipment. I also captured these difficulties and is something I will add to my reflection.

In the meantime, I wanted to gain a sense of how critical reflection should be made. In order to do this, I looked back at 3 previous student projects. While viewing these reflections, I mainly wanted to gain a sense of the necessary elements. Basically, I wanted a general idea of what should be in the reflection. I also will take some style inspiration if I believe it was done well. To the right are the 3 reflections I looked at.

Take-Aways:

In addition to looking at the videos on the right, I also went back to the assignment page. I wanted to make sure during this period I am constantly looking over this page. I will need to remind myself of the requirements that I will need to meet. I will also definitely make sure to look at the list below while making the reflection.

CCR:
  • How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?
  • How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?
  • How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
  • How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware, and online – in this project?

The main takeaways I took from the videos were what to go over. I will reflect on several elements to answer the questions above. I did not enjoy the structure and style of some of the reflections, however. The one I enjoyed the most was the one on the top. The style was modern and of high quality. I know this doesn't matter as much as the elements but it is something I will strive for.

I also wanted to mention that I am constantly researching possible additions. Primarily I focused my searching today on lighting and title sequences. I found myself going into a rabbit hole of videos on the topic. I actually really enjoy videos on the topic. Growing my knowledge of media production software is intriguing to me.

I believe I am in a good stance with my project. I am making strides to complete both aspects of my project. The move to re-shoot a lot of the shots was really good. Also getting a variety of random shots was beneficial. I am moving quickly in the making of this opening!
