An Idea

So today I've been thinking a lot about what my documentary could be based on. I had to ensure whilst brainstorming that my ideas could actually be brought to fruition.  Many of the ideas I initially thought of would be immensely difficult to produce. A major factor I had to consider was if I could get interviewees. I don't want to research and be set on an idea and than find out no one wants to be an interviewee. Because of this, I was thinking a more local concept would be better. I started to think about the various people I know. A few induvial came to mind but one that stood out was my coach. Not just my main martial arts coach but the team of coaches I have at my martial arts academy.

There life is very interesting to me as they dedicated their life to perfecting the practice of martial arts. Many of my coaches literally spent their whole life training from baby to adult. I thought it would be a very cool idea to interview my coaches. Since the documentary has to be a part of a series, I thought making a series on the various martial arts would be interesting: Boxing, Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Karate, and Taekwondo. For the episode expert I would produce a portion of the Jiu Jitsu episode. Many of my coaches are multiple degree black belts. Interviewing them on their Jiu Jitsu journey interests me a lot. I'll have to see which coaches will be willing to participate in my documentary.

For today I wanted to find a full Jiu Jitsu documentary to view. I just want to get an idea of the type of storyline and shots I could potentially create.

I found this amazing documentary on the Jiu Jitsu lifestyle in Southern California. The documentary was filled with many interviews and beautiful shots. The documentary also used many old photos and videos of interviewees. This is definitely something I plan to do within my documentary. I will definitely continue to reference this documentary whilst trying to find inspiration for my project.
