Another Mood Board!

To Do list:

  • The first thing I wanted to do today made a mood board for my costume design seen below.
  • Later on today, I will start creating my storyboard.
  • After that, using my storyboard I will create my filming schedule.
Costume Design Mood Board

Cargo 2017
For my character Ed Dawson, it was important to keep his outfit realistic. I found when I first started looking at films for inspiration, many outfits were not realistic. Its super important since my plot is based in the real world. I also had to consider how much everything will cost me and if I could even get the clothing in time. I made sure to take all these factors into consideration before I began searching.

After tediously going through shots from different movies, I saw a shot taken from Fury Road. The picture on the right-hand side shows the character dirty: his hand is charred black, his clothing is sweaty, his face is covered in dirt, and some blood on his face. He is also wearing shoulder pads which I think was an interesting idea to take from. It shows he's in a dangerous environment where he needs to protect himself.

I also want Ed Dawson to have similar features. I think it will be cool to have him get progressively sweatier as he searches in the opening. Making the character dirty shows the character has been in a harsh environment. This will add good depth to the opening by making another aspect for the audience to think about. Why is he dirty? Where did he get this dirty? I also want to include some form of protecting gear. This adds another aspect of questioning as the audience will need to infer why he needs to protect himself. A small note I took from the picture was to have a lighter shirt. A grey/white-toned crewneck show the dirt and sweat way better.

The picture on the left side was taken from the film Cargo 2017. It shows the character in a bloody shirt and jeans. The main thing I took from the picture was the jeans. Jeans are something I can buy at a place like Good Will cheaply. It's a relatable piece of clothing similar to his denim jacket. Similar to the shot taken from Fury Road, the character is wearing a light yellow shirt. It shows the blood a lot, though in the opening the character won't be covered in blood. Off a design notion, I also like how the character looks hurt. From the still image, it's obvious he's walking in a hurt fashion. This is also something I want to implement neat the end of the opening. It will show how hard Ed Dawson was searching

Next Steps:

I already have some idea of what scenes I want in the opening. I will also have to make another mood board for one other location I want to film in. I am going to brainstorm some more tonight and see if I come up with anything new. But so far, I have an idea of how I want the start and middle of the opening will be. I can't wait to finish the storyboard tomorrow!
