Starting the plot

Plot Brainstorming:

In my last post I talked about how I selected my genre, dystopia. The first section I wrote about how I came to this selection and at the end I wrote "I was forming possible plots to incorporate an adventure aspect into the dystopian setting". In the past couple days I've been brainstorming deep into the adventure aspect. I also decided I wanted to incorporate some part of myself into the opening. Ideas were jumping all around my head and at first it was hard to create a plot that made sense. What I did know is that I wanted the opening to be shot in the miniature forest I spoke about in my previous posting. I also went and watched "The Manuel" again and tried to identify scenes where it felt the most lonely. A scene that was constantly displayed was the character inside of an empty RV van seen bellow.

I wanted to do a similar scene with my character inside of an empty broken down room. Now I knew two concrete locations I wanted to shoot in.

Locations:
  • Forest
  • Empty broken down room
I also went back to the short film and got some shots taken in the forest. I wanted to get some examples of the bullets I put at the bottom of my last post. I really really like the long shot showing the whole forest and the character in the center. It makes him feel so small compared to the world around him. The location I want to film at isn't as big as this one though so this may be challenging to pull off. But a challenge is never something I try to stray from. If it does end up working out it would be such a beautiful shot for my opening.

Next Steps:

I currently have some idea of the plot I want to create. I know that I want it to centered around a mans life in a post apocalyptic world. The idea of how the world became apocalyptic I am still developing. So far, I know I want to incorporate fungi into this aspect of the plot. The location that I want to film has a lot of wild fungi that I think would look really cool in the opening. I also want the main character to have a mission that hes striving to complete. This is where I want to adventure aspect of the opening to be centered around. In the opening I want to ensure that the audience knows how much the world changed in the character life. I also want to incorporate some sort of pressure into the characters life. For the next few hours, I am just going to sit and brainstorm a possible storylines. Then throughout today I am going to ask people what they think. I really want to incorporate peoples suggestions into my plot. My next posting later today will be my plot. I will describe my plot and how I came to its final form. I will also go to the first film location and take some pictures for my next post for you all to see!
